I’m an African
Don’t scorn me for being black
I’m an African;
Don’t blame me for colours I lack
I’m an African,
I might take my flight
Within or without this borders
When I refuse to fight
My blood brothers,
I may come at the dying of a day
Don’t say I’m a runner
And chase me away
I’m not a foreigner,
I may come bearing my fears
From far across lakes and rivers
On tides of my own tears
But dear I’m an African, not a refugee
This land bred me
Just like it bred my forefathers
This land fed and cherished me
You are all my brothers.
