“Grief In Silence”
Musa Mwalimu Dukuly
Everyday is a burial for me,
My heart tells me mother’s still alive,
While the grave tells me she’s at sleep.
I growled, wailed and mourned
Her dismissal, every night,
At dawn, I pretend to be okay,
This is the pain, my heart holds.
Look in my eyes,
You will see a jar of
ma’am memories,
The dreams we shared,
The life we envisaged,
After Papi ghost the earth,
One early morning, of no year.
It has never been honey and milk,
Since ma’am ascended to paradise,
Looking at these unfulfilled dreams,
We shared and loved,
I feel hunger in my gut.
Those things have faded away,
Her wish is paradise and peace.
Mercy at her new home. Ma’am ’til I visit you,
I vow to fulfill those
childhood dreams,
I shared with you.
